I originally picked WordPress because it was fast and lightweight. I like sites that are minimalistic, but still to a point where they maintain a professional feel. But even while achieving that effect, there is a massive overhead. I’ve come to the realization that despite it’s lightweight appearance, it has a VERY heavy weight load. And this brings me to optimization… something that despite my best efforts I cannot seem to accomplish.
Sadly, there is really only two realistic options for me at this point. Keep what I have right now, and hope that the relatively long loading times aren’t a huge turnoff to visitors. In the long run I can hopefully become a better coder and optimize my site better. But that’s long term. Short term would be to ditch what I have and go back to the very barebones, and work from the ground up again being extra careful on any additions I make.
I’m honestly not sure what I want to do. I don’t want to start over, but where I’m standing there is so much overhead and I’m not sure what javascript applets are related to what plugins I’m using, and what I can disable without damaging the site too badly. I don’t like either option, but I don’t want to be stuck on this decision forever.
In the meantime, enjoy the new content & upgrades I’m making to the site.
